New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has been named the American League Player of the Week, Major League Baseball announced on Monday.
This marks the 13th time Judge has received this honor, placing him alongside Alex Rodriguez for the third-most in American League history. Additionally, he is tied with Rodriguez and Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan for the sixth-most weekly awards in MLB history.
Judge delivered an outstanding performance against the Milwaukee Brewers, batting .545 (6-for-11) while launching four home runs, driving in 11 runs, and scoring eight times. He also recorded two doubles, three walks, and posted a 1.818 slugging percentage with a .643 on-base percentage.
His dominance was especially evident in Saturday’s game against Milwaukee, where he went 4-for-6 with three home runs and a career-high eight RBIs. Judge’s first-inning homer was part of a historic sequence, as he, Paul Goldschmidt, and Cody Bellinger became the first trio in Yankees history to hit three consecutive home runs to start a game. Later, he added a grand slam in the third, a two-run shot in the fourth, and a two-run double in the sixth.
Judge joined Yankees legends Lou Gehrig, Alex Rodriguez, and Joe DiMaggio as one of the few players in franchise history to record at least three three-homer games. His 40 career multi-homer games now rank second among active players, trailing only Manny Machado.
The Yankees are off to a 3-0 start and are the only remaining American League team without a loss as of Monday.
