Susan Currie leaves legislature to lead county library

Tompkins County Legislator Susan Currie will step down March 31 to become interim director of the Tompkins County Public Library, according to local officials.

Currie, who has served District 3 in Ithaca since 2023, held key committee roles and was praised for her dedication. Her departure will trigger a special election, with the date to be set April 1. She begins her new role April 1 and is expected to serve through September.

Currie previously led the library from 2009 to 2017 and again briefly in 2021. A longtime Ithaca resident and award-winning author, she brings decades of library leadership and community engagement to the post.
