The Cayuga Nation has donated $60,000 to the Union Springs Hose Company, supporting the acquisition of a rescue hovercraft that will enhance emergency response capabilities.
Fire Chief Garret Waldron and 1st Deputy Fire Chief Jessica Waldron met with Cayuga Nation Police Superintendent Michael DuBois earlier this month to discuss the importance of the new equipment. The hovercraft will allow first responders to navigate ice, mud, and swamp conditions, ensuring safer and more effective rescues.
“The Cayuga Nation remains committed to giving back to the community and being good neighbors,” said Cayuga Nation Leader and Federal Representative Clint Halftown. “Every day, these dedicated men and women put themselves in harm’s way to keep our community safe, and it’s an honor to help them get the equipment they need to do their important work.”
This latest contribution continues the Cayuga Nation’s long-standing support for local emergency services. Previous donations have funded firefighter protective gear, infrastructure improvements, and emergency response vehicles, including UTV One and Rescue Two.
The Union Springs Hose Company serves approximately 3,000 residents across 28 square miles. Operating 24/7 with 30 active volunteer firefighters, the department provides fire rescue and protection on land and water. The addition of the hovercraft will bolster their ability to respond to emergencies in hazardous environments.
