The Walworth Town Board held a brief but eventful regular meeting on March 20, 2025, during which Supervisor Mike Donalty officially resigned.
Donalty, who has served as supervisor since January 2022, said he is stepping down to accept a law enforcement position with a local college. “I’m not going away, I’m just taking a step back,” Donaldson said in an emotional farewell. “I will continue to be involved in the community… and I would appreciate your continued support in any endeavors that I may follow at this point.”
The board also approved several resolutions during the meeting, including:
- A budget modification related to a miscalculation in Equivalent Dwelling Units (EDUs), which caused the town to collect $134 less than needed. Officials said they are working to prevent similar issues in future years.
- Authorization for the Highway Department to move to four 10-hour workdays from April 6 to October 19.
- Contracts with The Metro Group for cooling tower water treatment compliance at Town Hall.
- The rehiring of two seasonal parks employees.
- A deposit for new conference room furniture, with the board clarifying that installation would wait until ongoing repairs to walls and flooring are completed.
A separate resolution related to the Lincoln Fire Department’s 2024 Service Award Program was tabled due to a recusal by Councilman Johnson, which left the board without a voting majority.
During committee reports, Councilwoman Linson said that Megan McLaughlin will serve as interim library director while the current director is on leave. She also provided updates on sidewalk planning and ongoing issues with a sewer force main on Walworth Road. MRB Group and the Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority are involved in developing a long-term solution.
Councilman Johnson reported that union negotiations are ongoing and noted the continued growth of cannabis dispensaries in the Rochester region, now totaling more than 30.
Two residents spoke during public comment. Rich Hall, representing the Walworth Lions Club, discussed plans to partner with K2 Brewing for a beer tent at the upcoming Summer Festival. Another resident, Thomas Ninestine, expressed concerns on behalf of Coverup Road homeowners about a proposed solar farm near their properties. The board noted that no formal application had been submitted yet but encouraged residents to remain engaged.
The board voted to call a special meeting for March 27 at 6:30 p.m. and ended the night by entering an attorney-client privilege session. No formal action was taken following that session.
