House fire in Hopewell leaves home uninhabitable, no injuries reported

A residential fire in the Town of Hopewell Thursday afternoon left a home uninhabitable, though all occupants escaped without injury.

Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies and multiple fire departments responded to the blaze at 2295 State Route 21 at approximately 1:59 p.m. Fire crews from Hopewell, Canandaigua, Manchester, Shortsville, Clifton Springs, and East Bloomfield worked to contain and extinguish the fire. East Bloomfield Ambulance also responded to the scene.

Due to the fire, authorities temporarily closed State Route 21 between State Route 488 and County Road 19 from 2:07 p.m. to 3:38 p.m. Firefighters successfully contained the flames within the residence before deeming the scene safe. However, town code enforcement officials later determined the home was uninhabitable due to fire damage.

Three individuals were identified as being involved in the incident: Gregory E. Cooper, 54, and Lawrence J. Comstra, 76, both of Canandaigua, and Lisa R. Betty, 51, of Bath. Officials confirmed that all occupants made it out of the home safely.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
