Deputies in Cayuga County have arrested a Mentz man nearly four years after he was first accused of stalking and harassing a woman.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office reported that Bryan K. Whyte, 56, was taken into custody on February 12 at a residence on Jackson Street in the village of Weedsport. Whyte had been the subject of an investigation dating back to September 27, 2021, when deputies responded to reports of ongoing harassment. Authorities said Whyte had allegedly been following a woman, taking photos of her, and persistently sending her harassing messages and phone calls.
At the time of the original investigation, Whyte evaded law enforcement, prompting a judge to issue an arrest warrant. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to locate him, deputies finally apprehended him this week.
Whyte has been charged with stalking in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree, both misdemeanors. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building for processing before being turned over to CCJ for CAP Court arraignment.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office at 315-253-1222 or submit an anonymous tip online.
