Victor man tried entering Canandaigua elementary school illegally

A 62-year-old Victor man was arrested earlier this week after attempting to enter Canandaigua Elementary School without authorization, causing alarm among students and staff. Marcus Curtis was charged with one count of criminal trespass in the third degree.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. as early-arrival students were entering the building. School staff intercepted Curtis near the main office and swiftly escorted him out through a secondary entrance to ensure student safety. During this time, school buses carrying arriving students were temporarily held outside until the situation was deemed secure.

Curtis was detained by a school resource officer outside the facility while Canandaigua police officers arrived to take him into custody. After students were safely inside, Curtis was arrested and removed from the premises.

Authorities have stated that there is no evidence indicating that Curtis intended to harm anyone at the school. He was processed and released with an appearance ticket to appear in City of Canandaigua Court on February 24.

The school’s staff has been praised for their quick response, which minimized the potential impact of the incident by promptly recognizing and addressing the threat.
