Livingston County seeks public input on bridge replacement project

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Livingston County Highway Department is calling on residents to share feedback about the Starr Road over Taunton Gully Bridge Replacement project, which is set to begin in the Town of Leicester.

The project aims to replace the deteriorating bridge with a modern structure designed to last at least 75 years. The new bridge will accommodate higher traffic loads and meet current safety standards across federal, state, and county levels. Plans also include widening the roadway by a foot, allowing for 11-foot travel lanes and four-foot shoulders on both sides, which will improve traffic operations.

The construction phase will require a full closure of the bridge to through traffic. A detour spanning 5.3 miles will be established, routing vehicles along Starr, Peoria, Wallace, Old State, and Covington Roads to maintain access during the project.

Officials estimate the project will cost $1.36 million, with Livingston County contributing 20% of the total. Construction is expected to start in April 2026 and be completed by October of the same year.

Residents are encouraged to submit their comments and concerns by Feb. 23. Input can be provided through an online form, or by sending comments via email, fax, phone, or mail to the Livingston County Highway Department at 4389 Gypsy Lane, Mt. Morris, NY.
