President Trump’s executive orders aimed at mass deportations and stricter border enforcement have sparked legal challenges and fear in immigrant communities.
The administration seeks cooperation from state and local agencies in federal operations led by ICE, but many states, including New York, refuse to assist, citing constitutional limitations on federal authority over state law enforcement.
New York AG Letitia James and 10 other attorneys general condemned the policy, emphasizing their duty to uphold state laws and protect community trust.
Local officials, such as Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby, clarified that ICE targets criminal offenders, not conducting community raids, while also warning of increased human and drug trafficking along New York’s borders.
