California utility equipment linked to wildfire investigation

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Southern California Edison disclosed that its equipment might have sparked the Hurst Fire, which erupted during January’s deadly LA firestorm, the Associated Press reports. The Hurst Fire burned 1.25 square miles but caused no fatalities or structural damage.

SCE is also under investigation for the Eaton Fire, which devastated Altadena and killed at least 17 people. While lawsuits cite evidence of electrical arcing near the fire’s origin, SCE maintains there is no definitive proof linking its equipment to the blaze. The utility is cooperating with investigators and reviewing video footage and equipment damage.

Both fires are now fully contained.
