Attorneys general move to block Musk’s access to federal data

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Several Democratic attorneys general announced plans to sue Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, according to the Associated Press. Their goal is to prevent access to federal payment systems holding Americans’ private data. New York Attorney General Letitia James stressed the lawsuit aims to safeguard constitutional rights and essential federal payments.

Concerns about security breaches and delayed Social Security or Medicare payments prompted the legal action. A federal judge restricted DOGE’s access to Treasury systems on Thursday, allowing only two Musk affiliates read-only permissions.

Meanwhile, unions and officials raised alarms over recent incidents involving DOGE’s controversial data maneuvers.
