Fast acting first responders rescue dog from icy Waterloo waters

Waterloo firefighters saved a dog trapped in the icy waters of the Cayuga-Seneca Canal on Feb. 6.

Crews responded to the scene around 4 p.m., where they suited up to perform the rescue, while other firefighters ensured their safety.


The dog was successfully removed from the water, though its owner and the circumstances leading to the incident remain unknown.

The rescue highlights the department’s quick response amid harsh winter conditions.
