Garage, classic cars destroyed in Monday fire

  • Staff Report

A fire on Monday afternoon in Geneva destroyed a garage and at least five restored classic cars, including a rare Chevy Corvette, according to fire officials. The Finger Lakes Times reports the blaze engulfed Jonathan Acquista’s detached garage on Norway Maple Drive, causing extensive damage before firefighters could respond.

The intense heat melted siding on an attached garage 40 feet from the house. Vehicles, aerosols, and welding tanks inside the garage fueled the fire, which caused explosions and led to a total loss.

No firefighters were injured, though a relative of Acquista’s was hospitalized after slipping on ice. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
