Burdett, Hector explore feasibility of new municipal wastewater system

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Village of Burdett and the Town of Hector are conducting a feasibility study to assess the costs and benefits of replacing private septic systems with a municipal wastewater system, officials announced.

The study, which focuses on areas within Burdett and along State Route 414 in Hector, will evaluate factors such as the current condition of septic systems, well water locations, soil characteristics, and the impact on Seneca Lake and its tributaries. The final report will outline projected system costs, compare them to maintaining private septic systems, and identify potential grant opportunities to reduce costs for residents.

Residents are invited to attend open house events to learn more and share their input. The first session will take place on Wednesday, February 5, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Town of Hector Fire Hall, located at 5736 State Route 414. A second session is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Village of Burdett Fire House, 4124 Lake Avenue.

Officials hope the study and community feedback will guide decisions to protect local water quality and improve wastewater management infrastructure.
