President Donald Trump announced retaliatory measures against Colombia after President Gustavo Petro rejected two U.S. military deportation flights carrying migrants.
Trump outlined steps including 25% tariffs on Colombian imports, visa restrictions for officials and supporters, and enhanced inspections for Colombian nationals and cargo.
Petro defended his decision, stating migrants should not be treated as criminals and would only be accepted on civilian planes. In response to Trump’s tariffs, Petro ordered a 25% increase in tariffs on U.S. goods.
This marks the second instance of a Latin American country rejecting U.S. deportation flights, following Mexico’s refusal.
