Trump signs executive orders on AI, crypto, Lumbee Tribe recognition, pardons, and declassification

President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders on January 23, 2025, addressing a wide range of issues, including artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, tribal recognition, pardons, and the declassification of significant historical files. The signing, held in the Oval Office, was accompanied by remarks underscoring his administration’s priorities.

One of the orders establishes a policy to position the United States as a global leader in artificial intelligence. “This will make America the world capital in AI and ensure we dominate this critical field,” Trump said, praising David Sacks, who was introduced as the administration’s AI and cryptocurrency czar. Another executive order outlines a plan to develop America as a hub for cryptocurrency innovation by forming an internal working group focused on the sector’s growth.

The president also signed a memorandum advocating for federal recognition of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. “This is their first big step,” Trump said, noting the tribe’s longstanding support for his leadership. The memorandum directs relevant departments to take action to promote their recognition.

Trump further issued pardons for 23 pro-life protesters whom he said were “prosecuted unfairly” by the prior administration for exercising their First Amendment rights. “Many of them are elderly, and this is a great honor to sign this for them,” Trump remarked.

Finally, the president signed an executive order mandating the declassification of files related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Calling it “a big one,” Trump acknowledged the public’s decades-long demand for transparency on these historical events, promising that “everything will be revealed.”

The event included discussions on various topics, with Trump fielding questions on the economy, interest rates, Middle East policy, and his broader agenda. He affirmed his focus on fostering economic growth, securing the border, and maintaining U.S. leadership in global affairs.
