ICE plans major deportation operation post-inauguration

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is organizing a large-scale enforcement operation in Chicago, set to begin shortly after Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to internal documents reviewed by NBC News. Dubbed “Operation Safeguard,” the plan targets multiple city locations over several days, with similar actions anticipated in other metropolitan areas.

Despite ICE’s $230 million budget shortfall and limited detention capacity, the new administration appears poised to execute its mass deportation pledge. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has vowed to protect migrants from unlawful arrests, setting the stage for legal and political battles.
