GOP contenders emerge for Stefanik’s seat

Assemblyman Chris Tague and former congressional candidate Liz Joy are frontrunners for the Republican nomination to succeed U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, who is poised to become ambassador to the UN. Governor Kathy Hochul will set a special election once Stefanik vacates her seat in New York’s 21st District.

Both candidates align with Stefanik’s and Trump’s policies. Tague, a Schoharie County Assemblyman and businessman, is favored for his local ties and work ethic. Joy, a former NY-20 candidate, boasts a strong donor base and GOP support. Other potential nominees include county executives, state senators, and rising figures like 26-year-old entrepreneur Josh Parker.

The GOP and Conservative Party aim to align candidates to maintain the district’s Republican dominance. Meanwhile, Democrats are interviewing candidates for a competitive challenge.
