Rep. Mike Lawler criticized Gov. Kathy Hochul and Democratic policies, including spending, criminal justice reforms, and migrant handling, ahead of her State of the State address. Lawler, representing New York’s 17th Congressional District, signaled interest in running for governor in 2026, citing New York’s high out-migration as a key concern.
Joined by state Republicans, Lawler emphasized bipartisan achievements and called Hochul ineffective. State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt echoed frustrations with crime and living costs, warning of growing Republican support if issues persist.
Hochul’s address was set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at The Egg in Albany. Lawler, who served in the state Assembly before Congress, will announce his decision later this year.
