A two-vehicle crash on State Route 247 in Gorham left two people with injuries and temporarily closed the roadway, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The incident occurred around 12:22 p.m. near 3731 State Route 247 as Pauline Rice, 77, of North Grafton, Massachusetts, was driving a 2025 Kia Seltos northbound through heavy snow and drifting conditions. Her vehicle began fishtailing, causing her to lose control.
Deputy Tatiana Sosnowsky, 28, of Canandaigua, who was on routine patrol in a marked sheriff’s vehicle, was following Rice when she also began to fishtail. The patrol vehicle struck the rear of Rice’s vehicle, sending both vehicles into snowdrifts on the east side of the road.
Rice was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital by Gorham Ambulance for back pain, while Deputy Sosnowsky reported a minor hand injury. State Route 247 was closed for approximately 90 minutes as crews cleared the scene and removed the vehicles.
Responders included the Gorham and Stanley fire departments, Gorham Ambulance, Gorham Highway Department, New York State Department of Transportation, and New York State Police. The crash remains under investigation.
