Ithaca man arrested for assault, faces weapons and drug charges

A 54-year-old Ithaca resident has been arrested on assault, weapons, and drug charges following an incident at the West End Heights Apartment Complex late Sunday night.

On January 7, at approximately 11:29 p.m., Ithaca Police responded to a report of an assault at 701 W. Court St. Officers discovered that the victim had been struck multiple times with a handgun. The alleged assailant, identified as Andre Hayes, was arrested at the scene and charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony.


Hayes was arraigned in the City of Ithaca Court before Judge Wallace and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or a $4,000 property bond.

During a subsequent search of Hayes’ apartment, police recovered a handgun, narcotics, and the victim’s phone. Hayes now faces additional charges, including criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony.
