A New York appeals court judge rejected Donald Trump’s latest attempt to delay his sentencing in the hush money case, according to the Associated Press. The ruling followed an emergency hearing where Trump’s lawyers argued that his status as president-elect grants him immunity from criminal proceedings—a claim previously dismissed by the trial judge.
This marks the second failed attempt by Trump to postpone sentencing, which remains scheduled for Friday. Judge Juan Merchan signaled leniency by allowing Trump to attend sentencing virtually to accommodate his transition to office.
If sentencing is delayed past January 20, presidential immunity could further complicate the case. Trump’s legal team suggests they might escalate their appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
