President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and loyal ally, to lead the Justice Department. Bondi’s nomination follows Matt Gaetz’s withdrawal amid opposition tied to his personal controversies. Known for her hardline stances and ties to Trump’s political orbit, Bondi’s selection signals a continuation of Trump’s focus on loyalty within his administration.
Bondi, Florida’s first female attorney general, opposed the Affordable Care Act and supported anti-human-trafficking initiatives but faced criticism for declining to act against Trump University after receiving a campaign donation from Trump.
She later joined Trump’s impeachment defense team and promoted his unsubstantiated election fraud claims in 2020. As attorney general, Bondi would oversee federal election investigations, raising concerns about partisanship within the Justice Department.
