Governor Kathy Hochul, in partnership with the New York State Division of Human Rights, has launched a new public information campaign, “Call Out Hate,” aimed at addressing incidents of hate and bias statewide. The campaign is part of a broader initiative by the state to support communities impacted by discrimination and to encourage all New Yorkers to report incidents of hate and bias as they occur.
The campaign will be visible in transit systems across New York, including New York City subways, Metro-North, and Long Island Rail Road stations, and will also be promoted at educational events hosted by the Division of Human Rights. The message: hate has no place in New York, and all New Yorkers deserve to live without fear of discrimination.
“Hate has no place in New York State,” Governor Hochul said. “By calling out hate wherever it arises, we strengthen our communities, protect one another, and honor the diversity that makes our state great.”
The “Call Out Hate” campaign directs New Yorkers affected by hate or bias to resources for reporting incidents. New Yorkers are encouraged to contact the state’s Hate and Bias Prevention Unit (HBPU) by calling 844-NO-2-HATE or through an online reporting form. Established in December 2022, the HBPU offers support services to those impacted by bias, including referrals to law enforcement when necessary, assistance with filing complaints, conflict resolution, and access to restorative justice practices.
Acting Division of Human Rights Commissioner Denise M. Miranda emphasized the importance of the new resources, stating, “Acts of hate and bias are intolerable. Through this campaign, the Division is empowering New Yorkers with awareness of the support available to them and encouraging immediate reporting of hate incidents.”
The initiative builds on Governor Hochul’s recent efforts to strengthen community responses to discrimination, including the establishment of the HBPU. This unit also offers support through public education, fostering understanding, and providing practical support for those experiencing hate.
The “Call Out Hate” campaign is a reminder that New Yorkers are not alone, and state resources are available for those who face acts of discrimination or hate.
