Two Wayne County 911 dispatchers are being recognized for their quick thinking and heroic actions that helped save lives both on and off duty. Dispatcher Makayla Mottler and Dispatcher Megan Williams have each been credited with life-saving interventions in separate incidents.
While out to dinner in Auburn, Mottler sprang into action when she heard a commotion caused by a patron choking. After others unsuccessfully attempted to help, Mottler administered the Heimlich maneuver and successfully dislodged the obstruction, saving the individual’s life.
In a separate incident in June, Dispatcher Megan Williams guided a passerby through CPR over the phone for seven minutes. The bystander had called 911 to report a man in cardiac arrest in Walworth. Thanks to Williams’ calm instructions, the bystander was able to keep the man stable until paramedics arrived.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office commended both women for their courage and professionalism. “911 is often the silent heroes of the first-responder family,” the department said in a statement. Sheriff Milby posed with both Mottler and Williams in recognition of their outstanding service.
