Tompkins County officials are considering two budget plans for 2025, with one recommending a 4.34% property tax levy increase, just below the state tax cap. County Administrator Lisa Holmes presented the proposals earlier this month, highlighting rising state mandates and increased salary costs as key factors driving the budget.
If the $252.3 million budget is approved, residents could see a tax increase of $1,381 on a median-priced home. The budget also includes expansions for health services and emergency programs, which rely on one-time funding that may not be available in 2026.
A public forum will be held on Sept. 30 to gather community input before the budget is finalized by December.
