Six additional deaths have been reported in connection with a multistate listeria outbreak linked to Boar’s Head deli meat, bringing the total death toll to nine.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that 57 people have been hospitalized across 18 states, making this the largest listeriosis outbreak since 2011.
The outbreak, traced back to Boar’s Head Strassburger Brand Liverwurst produced at a facility in Virginia, led to a recall of 7 million pounds of meat. Boar’s Head has expressed deep regret for the impact, emphasizing food safety as their top priority.
The outbreak has particularly affected older adults and those with weakened immune systems.
