The Arizona Diamondbacks (75-57) have been one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball since the All-Star break, but the New York Mets (69-63) went into Chase Field on Tuesday night and handed them an 8-3 loss, ending their six-game win streak.
Pete Alonso opened the scoring with his 28th home run of the season and the 220th of his career matching Mike Piazza for the third-most homers in Mets history.Â
The Mets broke open the game in the fifth, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring six runs for an 8-0 lead. Jeff McNeil started the inning with a double and Francisco Alvarez brought him home with an RBI single, snapping an 0-for-17 skid.
Mark Vientos, Jesse Winker, and Tyrone Taylor drove in runs as well. Brandon Nimmo had a game-high three hits.
Sean Manaea allowed just one hit through the first six innings before giving up a pair of homers in the seventh. The left-hander surrendered three runs over 6.2 innings.
The Mets look to clinch a series win on Wednesday with Luis Severino on the hill. The first pitch is slated for 9:40 p.m.
