The Ithaca Police Department is investigating a reported assault as a hate crime after a man was attacked on Saturday afternoon in the 100 block of Cascadilla Street. The suspect, described as a white male in his mid-20s to early 30s with black curly hair, allegedly made derogatory comments about the victim’s gender identity during the assault.
The suspect was last seen riding a black bicycle with wide tires and rounded handlebars. The victim did not know the assailant.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, noting that tips can be provided anonymously. The investigation is ongoing.
