Hornell man charged with attempted murder after shooting

A Hornell man is in custody after allegedly shooting at his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend during a Saturday incident.

Michael E. Bloom, 33, was arrested on August 17 and charged with attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm, and several other felonies. According to police, Bloom violated an order of protection by approaching his ex-girlfriend’s residence on Rockwell Street, where he fired multiple shots from a parked vehicle on Hart Street.

The victim, identified as the ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, was outside the home when the shooting occurred. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Bloom was apprehended shortly after the incident and is currently being held at the Steuben County Jail on multiple charges, including reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
