Authorities say an Auburn man was taken into custody after a major drug and weapon bust in the city.
Walter R. Leonard Jr. of Auburn has been arrested after a raid by the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force led to the seizure of cocaine, a firearm, and over $5,000 in cash. The task force, investigating Leonard for illegal drug activities, executed a search warrant on August 5, resulting in the discovery of 43.8 grams of cocaine and a loaded Taurus Spectrum .380 caliber handgun.
Leonard faces two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. Due to six prior felony convictions, the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office is seeking his detention. Leonard is currently held at Cayuga County Jail for arraignment.
The bust was conducted by the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force, including members from New York State Police, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and Auburn Police Department. The Auburn Police Department’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination Team also assisted in the operation. Anyone with further information is urged to contact the task force at 315-282-7540.
