The Yates County Legislature will convene a special meeting on August 5 to schedule a public hearing on a new residency requirement law for the county’s Public Defender position.
The proposed legislation aims to override New York State Public Officers Law, allowing candidates from outside Yates County to apply for the Public Defender role. This change seeks to broaden the pool of potential applicants for the position.
The special meeting is set for 11:30 a.m. in the Legislative Chambers at the Yates County Office Building, ahead of the monthly Legislature session.
