James Britenbaugh of Pennsylvania set a new New York State record for largemouth bass at Cayuga Lake on July 11. He caught a 12-pound, 6-ounce bass, surpassing the previous record set in 1987.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation confirmed the record-breaking catch. Britenbaugh was preparing for a bass tournament when he made the historic catch.
“This confirms that New York has the best bass fishing opportunities in the country,” said Interim Commissioner Mahar. The DEC encourages all anglers to participate in the Angler Achievement Awards Program, which recognizes significant catches across the state’s waters.
