The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, has awarded a $6.7 million contract to Great Lakes Dock & Materials LLC for repairs to the Great Sodus Bay East Breakwater. This is the largest investment in the bay by the Corps, aimed at ensuring the harbor’s viability and economic contributions.
Senator Charles Schumer praised the project, saying it will protect homes, marinas, and businesses, while boosting the local economy and tourism. The Village of Sodus Point and local organizations also expressed their gratitude for the support.
The project, set to begin in August and finish by fall 2025, will restore the 1,653-foot breakwater to its original height. Marine traffic near the breakwater should proceed with caution during construction.
