Tompkins County man arrested after multi-county police chase

Authorities have shared new details on the pursuit that happened in Tompkins County and resulted in a Groton resident being taken into custody on an array of charges.

Joshua F. Conklin, 35, of Groton was arrested after leading police on a chase through Tompkins and Cortland counties. Deputies and Dryden Police Officers spotted Conklin leaving the Dryden Hotel and attempted to stop him, but he fled, nearly hitting construction workers before crashing.

Conklin fled on foot, trying to steal several occupied vehicles. He was tased and apprehended. At the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Conklin attempted to escape but was tased and captured again. His car was impounded, and a search revealed 16 ounces of methamphetamine and two shotguns.

Conklin faces multiple charges, including drug possession and weapons charges. He is being held at the Tompkins County Jail and will be arraigned on the new charges this evening.
