NY warns of online gaming risks

The New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection is warning consumers about data privacy and financial risks associated with online gaming. Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal information and finances while gaming.

“Video games are more popular and advanced than ever,” said Mosley. “Consumers need to protect their data and finances from scammers, and parents should educate children about potential risks and healthy gaming habits.”

The Division recommends never sharing personal information with other gamers, being cautious of phishing attempts, and reviewing privacy settings. They also advise parents to use parental controls and monitor in-game spending to keep children safe. For more tips, follow the New York Department of State on social media for “Tuesday’s Tips.”
