Barn destroyed by fire in Genoa (photos)

  • Staff Report

On Sunday at 6:05 AM, the Genoa Fire Department responded to a barn fire on McAllister Road with animals inside. The first officers on the scene confirmed the barn was fully engulfed in flames and requested additional resources to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby barn.

Firefighters worked to evacuate the cattle and used handlines to control the fire before deploying a master stream to extinguish it. Several tankers and fill sites were used to supply water. The fire was contained to the original barn, preventing further damage.

The Genoa Fire Department thanks its mutual aid partners, including King Ferry, Locke, Moravia, Scipio, and Aurora Fire Departments, among others. Special thanks to Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, Four Town Ambulance, and MoMo’s Cafe for their support. Firefighters returned to service around 11:00 AM.
