State offers safety tips for July 4th fireworks

  • Staff Report

Governor Kathy Hochul reminds New Yorkers to stay safe this July 4th. The Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection, along with other agencies, offers tips for enjoying the holiday without injuries or fires.

Governor Hochul urges people to attend public fireworks displays instead of using personal fireworks. Sparkling devices, which are legal in some areas, can still be dangerous. They should be used carefully, following all instructions and keeping children away.

Thousands of fireworks-related injuries occur each year, especially around July 4th. Officials recommend using earplugs at displays, keeping a safe distance, and leaving pets at home. For more information and safety tips, visit the Department of State’s website.
