Millions in grants, contracts, and infrastructure-related funding decisions are on the table as the Cayuga County Legislature meets tonight.
Lawmakers are scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. at the Ward O’Hara Agricultural Museum in Auburn, where several high-impact financial resolutions are expected to drive the discussion.
One of the largest items up for consideration is a $596,740 state grant aimed at expanding harm reduction services through the county’s Mental Health Department. The funding would support outreach efforts, case management, and services targeting individuals at risk of overdose, including those experiencing homelessness, with the program extending through 2028.
Lawmakers will also consider accepting $690,000 in state funding through the “Leading with Lead” program, which focuses on removing lead hazards from rental housing. The funding is targeted at properties in Auburn’s 13021 ZIP code and would help landlords address safety issues tied to aging housing stock.
Another key item involves a five-year contract for in rem title search services tied to property foreclosures. The agreement outlines increasing costs over time and reflects ongoing county efforts to manage tax-delinquent properties and foreclosure proceedings.
On the infrastructure side, legislators are expected to take up a supplemental agreement with the state Department of Transportation that would expand lane mileage coverage and bring additional funding into the county’s highway system.
Additional financial actions include contracts for public services such as preschool transportation and supervised visitation programs, as well as technology and equipment agreements tied to county operations.
While the agenda includes routine staffing and administrative matters, the funding tied to public health, housing safety, and infrastructure is expected to be the most consequential business before lawmakers tonight.
