Seneca County is taking steps to evaluate and potentially extend the Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail. The county received an easement in 2010 for the trail’s first phase, which connects Seneca Lake State Park to Waterloo.
With the easement expiring in 2025, the Board of Supervisors’ Economic Development, Tourism, and Housing Committee approved a resolution on May 28 to hire MRB Group for an engineering survey and condition assessment, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The survey will include a thorough inspection of pedestrian bridges and access points. If the full board approves the resolution on June 11, the county will consider moving to Phase II, extending the trail from Waterloo to Seneca Falls, and Phase III, extending to Montezuma in Cayuga County.
