Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, confirmed a significant data breach involving 560 million users’ data. The breach was discovered on May 20, 2024, and was detailed in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing on May 31.
The hacker group ShinyHunters is reportedly selling the stolen data, which includes names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, and credit card details, for $500,000 on the dark web. Live Nation stated they are working to mitigate risks and are cooperating with law enforcement. No public statement has been issued by Ticketmaster or Live Nation yet.
In addition to the data breach, Live Nation faces a lawsuit from the U.S. Department of Justice and 29 states. The lawsuit accuses Live Nation and Ticketmaster of monopolizing the live entertainment industry through tactics like threats and retaliation.
