Driver quickly located after fleeing two-car crash; later charged with DWI

On May 30 around 11:56 p.m., Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-car accident at the intersection of Route 176 and Route 370. One vehicle had fled the scene, but deputies quickly located the suspect vehicle in the Village of Meridian.


The driver, Dominick M. Hart of Mattydale, was found to have run a stop sign while driving southbound on Route 176, causing a collision with a vehicle on Route 370. Hart was also found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Hart was arrested and charged with first-offense DWI, DWI under common law, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, among other traffic infractions. He was processed at the Public Safety Building and released with tickets to appear in the Town of Cato court on June 3, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
