Gina Suffredini named 2024 Henry C. Welles awardee

The Waterloo Library & Historical Society announced Gina Suffredini as the 2024 Henry C. Welles Awardee. The award ceremony will kick off the Celebrate Commemorate weekend on May 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the newly renovated Fatzinger Hall.

Suffredini, a Waterloo native and 1976 graduate, pursued her education at Herkimer County Community College, SUNY Geneseo, and Nazareth University. She dedicated 30 years to teaching as a Speech and Language Therapist in Waterloo, earning the Waterloo Education Association Teacher of the Year award. She also held numerous roles within the Waterloo Education Association, including building representative and chief negotiator.

An active community member, Suffredini served three terms as a Village Trustee, becoming the first woman Deputy Mayor. She contributed to various village committees and numerous community organizations, such as the Celebrate Commemorate Committee and Waterloo Rotary. Suffredini expressed pride and honor in receiving the award, emphasizing her dedication to promoting Waterloo’s rich history and inspiring community involvement.
