Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the launch of the New York State Healthcare Workers for Our Future Scholarship Program. The initiative is designed to combat the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals and improve the state’s health care system by providing full scholarships to about 500 students. These scholarships will cover two years of college education in New York for students pursuing degrees in critical health care fields such as nursing and respiratory therapy.

“The Healthcare Workers for Our Future scholarship is an investment in New York’s future, aiming to ensure every community has access to high-quality health care,” said Governor Hochul. The program will particularly benefit communities that are currently underserved, by encouraging students to work in these areas after graduation.

Recipients will receive scholarships for full-time study at any accredited college in New York in approved health-related associate or bachelor’s degree programs. This includes tuition, room and board, and additional costs like books and transportation. After completing their degrees, scholarship recipients are required to work for two years in underserved New York communities in their respective fields.
