Lyons forms committee to address veterans memorial concerns

In response to concerns from residents and veterans, Lyons Town Supervisor Jim Brady announced the formation of a committee to discuss potential changes to the relocation of veterans memorials within the town, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

The memorials, including the Veterans Memorial Obelisk and name plaques, have been moved from Central Park to Taylor Memorial Park, sparking debate among the community. The relocation coincides with plans to install a new bronze memorial dedicated to Civil War soldiers from the 111th New York Volunteer Infantry by 2025.

After objections were raised about the new layout, Brady expressed openness to limited modifications. Concerns include maintaining unobstructed sightlines in Taylor Park and preferences for keeping memorial plaques in their original location.

The decision to relocate the memorials is part of a broader initiative to revitalize the Canal Street area, with a $14 to $15 million development project planned.
