Sheriff Allard: Woman defrauded DSS for thousands in Steuben County

On March 27 deputies arrested 23-year-old Emily P. Martin for allegedly defrauding the County Department of Social Services.

According to Sheriff Jim Allard, Martin, from Painted Post, New York, is accused of submitting false documents to obtain over $4,000 in services illegally from May 2022 to November 2023. Charges against her include felony offenses related to welfare fraud, grand larceny, and falsifying business records, along with misdemeanors for petit larceny and misuse of food stamps.

Martin faced arraignment in the Centralized Arraignment Court and was released pending a future court appearance in the Village of Bath.

The investigation into Martin’s activities was a collaborative effort, involving the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
