A devastating fire engulfed a home at 7341 N. Main St. Extension in Hornellsville late Tuesday night, leaving the residence destroyed but no injuries reported. The North Hornell Fire Department confirmed that three adults, a dog, and a family of five managed to escape the blaze unscathed. The fire, which is believed to have started accidentally during a welding activity on the back porch, quickly spread throughout the two-story house.

Firefighting units from three counties were mobilized to combat the inferno, with North Hornell Fire Chief Mike Robbins activating a “9th Alarm” to summon the Tanker Task Force, a response strategy developed after a significant fire in 2019. Despite the extensive damage to the property, efforts from the firefighters prevented any harm to neighboring homes.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced residents, while the destroyed home, deemed uninhabitable, is expected to be demolished.
