According to Forbes, New York has been ranked as the 10th healthiest state in the United States. This ranking is part of Forbes’ latest report on the healthiest states in the nation, based on data from the Centers for Disease Control.
New York’s placement in the top ten reflects its strong performance in several health-related categories. The state ranks ninth in disease risk factors, including lower rates of diabetes, cancer, stroke, and internal organ diseases. Additionally, it stands 12th in lifestyle habits, which consider life expectancy, smoking rates, and obesity rates.
However, New York faces challenges in substance abuse, ranking 21st nationally. This category includes alcohol and opioid misuse, illicit drug use, prescription pain reliever abuse, and drug overdose rates.
New York’s position reflects a broader trend among eastern states, with Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New Hampshire also ranking highly. In contrast, states like West Virginia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Kentucky are at the bottom of the health rankings.
