Homeowners across much of New York are increasingly concerned about deed theft. It’s a growing issue with thousands of incidents reported in recent years.

In response to this rising threat, some parts of New York State have implemented a fraud alert system in county clerks’ offices.

This system automatically notifies homeowners via email if any document, including a deed, is filed in their name, aiming to prevent fraudulent transfers of property ownership.

However, many counties currently do not have access to this preventative measure.

For those concerned about deed theft, a proactive step is to regularly check local databases for any documents recorded under their name.
