Mentz crash leads to DWI arrest for driver

A single-car accident on November 5 led to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office charging 20-year-old William A. Sanderson with driving under the influence (DUI).


The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Lasher Road in the Town of Mentz, resulted in substantial damage to the vehicle after it veered off the road and collided with several trees.

Sanderson, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Upstate Hospital via ambulance to receive treatment for his injuries.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division’s investigation concluded that Sanderson was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Following the return of Sanderson’s blood toxicology report from the lab, he was charged with multiple offenses including DWI.

Sanderson was released with Uniform Traffic Tickets and is slated to appear in the Town of Mentz Court.
